VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Today, Congresswoman Elaine Luria (VA-02) joined Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) for a tele-town hall with members of the Greater Williamsburg Business Council to hear directly from constituents regarding their concerns about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on local small businesses.

“I appreciated this opportunity to hear from constituents and learn more about how my office can best advocate for them in Washington during these trying times,” said Congresswoman Luria. “I look forward to working with Congressman Wittman to serve the Williamsburg community to ensure the next relief package paves a path for economic recovery for small businesses and their employees.”

“Opportunities like these to hear from constituents who are facing these issues every day is so valuable,” said Congressman Wittman. “As we move forward with COVID-19 response and recovery, I will continue to focus on getting Americans back to work and defeating this virus by incentivizing rehiring and removing regulatory barriers to job creation, protecting small businesses, and connecting our rural communities without high-speed internet access. I want to thank Rep. Luria for participating in this conversation with local businesses – it is so critical that relief efforts continue to be bipartisan.”

Both representing areas of Williamsburg, Congresswoman Luria and Congressman Wittman are committed to working together to provide relief for businesses in the community. Through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), which has been given more funding by Congress, small businesses are able to find much needed economic support. Both representatives discussed available resources, their support for the aquaculture and fisheries industries, and the imperative for the Virginia delegation to work together to best serve the Commonwealth.

Congresswoman Elaine Luria represents Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where she is the Vice Chair of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where she serves as Chair of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee.
