Vice Chair Luria Amendment Invests $175 Million In Coast Guard Repair Yard
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) adopted Vice Chair Elaine Luria’s amendment to the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to authorize $175 million in critical investments for the Coast Guard Repair Yard in Baltimore, Maryland. The funding will go towards needed improvements to the dock, drydock, capital equipment, or dredging necessary to facilitate access to the yard.
“If we’re going to prevent another lost generation of shipbuilding in this country, we need to invest in our maritime industrial base up and down the coastal seaboard,” Vice Chair Luria said. “The Coast Guard Yard is a critical piece of our nation’s infrastructure and is vitally important to the armed services. I am proud to advocate for this investment and for the entire Coast Guard service, who are poised to play a critical role in our efforts to combat a rising China.”
Vice Chair Luria has been a tireless advocate for American shipbuilding and shipyards. This year’s NDAA includes a $25 billion increase in the President’s budget request, which contains an additional $2 billion for U.S. shipbuilding and ship repair.
